Furman merchandise
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:09:31 PM »
I know from the old UFFP site there was talk of the Wal-Mart in TR having a Furman area.  What is in said area?  Specifically, I'm looking for a diamond F decal for our new car and (hopefully) one of those folding tailgate chairs.  The bookstore is closed, so that's not an option.  Since time is of the essence, I'd like to know if it's worth stopping at Wally World to grab some gear.  Any help would be much appreciated.   8)

Highly unlikely that you will find much at this time of year.  Never saw decals, etc there, just shirts and chairs.  When I bought a chair a few months back, they were on "special" and they had exactly ONE after my buy.

Like hawg said.  I doubt that those things are regular stock items, and I didn't see any decals, either.  The University Shop at E. North & Pleasantburg has a few items.

The scarcity of Furman items around town harks back to something about Furman having the Diamond F copyrighted and making you buy at the University Store.  Am I wong about that?

Furman doesn't all Tevis tumblers to use their logo anymore or so I was told at one store in Greenville.  I did find some at Rush Wilson.  The store that Flag mentioned has a few decals, etc.

I actually found Furman Tervis Tumblers at the fan store in the Charleston Tanger Outlet mall.

Wally World was a waste of my time since whoever I asked about the chairs looked at me as though I wasn't from this planet.  I was in town early this morning, so I don't think the other place was even open yet.  It's very frustrating to not find anything when the bookstore is closed.  I'm hoping they have a catalog that I can order from, especially since I'm not the biggest fan of their website.

The Walmart on White Horse Rd had the chairs back in November. At the time I was there they had quite a few. Ayers Leather Shop downtown has a few items also.

So who is this Furman Tervis guy?   ;D

But there are NCAA licensed products out there.  Furman controls this (IMO) to up the price.

Owner of the University Shop told me that Furman's licensing is now somehow handled completely in-house.  It wasn't last year, which accounts for the WalMart section in 2008.  Only a few licensed NCAA products and bookstore stuff are now available.

If this truly is the policy (in-house only), then I have a new policy of my own: buy no FU stuff.  Someone has to teach these idiots about marketing.  Apparently they think that they can sell a $5 T-Shirt for $30 as long as no one else is selling them for $8.  They are wrong.

Good plan.  The bookstore is gettting increasingly unreasonable with the crap they're trying to sell.

It was time to buy the textbooks again a couple of weeks ago. We saved a few hundred dollars by using Barnes & Noble, on-line. The folks running the campus store need to get a dose of reality. They are overpriced on just about everything. I refuse to buy any clothing items there any longer. It's just too expensive for average quality merchandise.
